Half a day of AI, and a Cromwell spa now takes sauna bookings every day
By Dave Maguire, FanCast Productions

Pure Senses is the wellness centre at Mount Pisa, near Cromwell: a traditional Finnish sauna, an infrared and red light sauna, a cold plunge, and four practitioners under one roof, including The Reset Studio's Japanese head spa. We have been their photo and video crew since September. In early October we went back for something different: a half-day AI session with the owner.
A week later he rang with the result. Sauna bookings are now coming in every day, where before the session they weren't.
What we did in half a day
The plan was to get AI set up on his own computer, then point it straight at the jobs that were costing the business bookings and time. We used Claude Code, Anthropic's AI tool that works directly in your files and accounts, rather than a chat window you copy and paste out of. In one afternoon we:
- Installed Claude Code on his computer, so the setup belongs to the business, not to us.
- Fixed the Pure Senses website, page by page, so every page leads to Book now.
- Set up the online bookings. Each sauna experience can be booked online through Acuity, with confirmations and reminders sent automatically.
- Put the saunas on a schedule. The heaters switch on ahead of each booking, so the sauna is up to temperature when guests arrive and nobody has to come in early to turn it on.
- Automated the admin. Notifications and reporting that were being done by hand now run on their own.
- Built a new website for F1 Super Boat, his race boat ride business on Lake Dunstan.
- Fixed The Reset Studio's website, for the head spa inside Pure Senses.
The website: from brochure to booking page
We audited puresenses.co.nz on 1 October, a few days before the session. Only three of its pages were in Google. The homepage had 18 main headings where a page should have one, the sitemap still listed six template shop products called "Product Name", there was no business schema telling Google what Pure Senses is and where, and the site was set to Australian English.
Today the homepage has one clear heading, the placeholder products are gone, the site carries LocalBusiness schema and is set to New Zealand English, and there is a page for each thing people actually search for: the traditional sauna, the red light and infrared sauna, cold therapy, the guided ice bath, group sauna hire, a sauna guide, and a day trip page for visitors coming from Queenstown and Wanaka.
Every one of those pages ends at the same place: Book now. A site that looks good but does not take a booking is a brochure. A week after the session, the sauna is booked every day.
F1 Super Boat: a new site in the same afternoon

The owner also runs F1 Super Boat: rides in a two-seater F1 powerboat on Lake Dunstan, at over 160 km/h. It needed a website, so we built f1superboat.com in the same session. The homepage leads with video of the boat at full speed. There are sections for stag and hen parties, corporate team building and gift vouchers, a booking request form that asks for the date and group size up front, and the common questions are marked up so Google can show the answers.
The Reset Studio

The Reset Studio is the traditional Yume Japanese head spa inside Pure Senses, and it has its own website and its own booking system, so it needed its own fixes. We worked through theresetstudio.co.nz in the same session, so it is found as a Japanese head spa in Cromwell and every Book Now goes straight to the studio's online bookings.
Why the AI stays with the business
We did not take any of this away to do on our own computers. Claude Code is installed on the owner's machine and works in his own accounts. When the next job comes up, a new page, a seasonal package or a change to the booking rules, he can ask for it himself, or call us.
That is the difference between paying someone to fix a website once and having the tools in the building. The fixes above took one afternoon. The setup keeps paying after we leave.
What it means for a small business
Most small businesses here do not need an AI strategy. They need the booking page to work, a website that answers the questions customers ask, and the repetitive admin to stop eating their evenings. Those are the jobs AI is now genuinely good at, and as Pure Senses found, half a day can be enough to move the numbers.
We now offer this as AI business automation for businesses across Queenstown and Central Otago: we sit down with you, set it up on your computer and fix the real things together. If you would rather learn to drive it yourself, our sister business CamerAcademy runs AI for business training. And if your website needs more than a fix, see website and app development.
On 12 October we ran the same session for Osteopathy Central Otago, one of the practitioners based at Pure Senses.
